Stalactites and stalagmites
The Cueva del Puerto in Calasparra will awaken the explorer's soul of every visitor, as it allows you to enjoy a spectacle provided by nature and its different mineral formations.

At first glance, you will not notice its large interior extension, with several meters covered inside the cave for approximately one hour in an experience that you can share with family or friends, including the smallest of the house.

During the tour, you will realize that “discover” is a more appropriate word than “visit”. The formations will take you down a path that often becomes narrow, but during its steep slopes, technical stops are available to catch your breath and recover a little.

Where is the Cueva del Puerto?

To the northeast of the region of Murcia is this jewel of nature waiting to be explored, 9 kilometres from Calasparra. This tourist attraction is surrounded by the freshwater of the Argos, Segura and Quipar rivers.

The Cueva del Puerto has an immense total extension of 4,386 meters; however, the area available to tourists is only 700 meters.

To get to this particular place, take the RM-714 road and then take the existing detour at kilometre 36, which goes towards the Sierra del Puerto. This will lead you directly to the cave.

Underground experience

Although the corridors of the cave are narrow, you will not have trouble going through it. Specialized and professional guides will make the tour enjoyable, providing information about this natural resource, thereby guaranteeing laughter and new knowledge.

So far, there is no specific information about its discovery, but what has been proven is that it is one of the few caves included in the world catalogue of hypogenic or hydrothermal caves. It earned this global reference thanks to its unique hydrothermal characteristics, so you will notice an increase in temperature as the depth increases.

Inside are three fantastic audio-visual shows accompanied by speech and lighting synchronized with LED technology, as well as catwalks adjusted to the rock formations.

Meanwhile, the cave reception centre has a multipurpose and conference room, terraces, an interpretation room, a cafeteria and parking – everything ready to give you a great welcome.

Due to its great interior humidity, it is advisable to wear non-slip shoes for greater comfort during the experience.

Extreme activities

The depth of the cave cavity reaches 114 meters. It is an experience that can be lived by those who appreciate more risk and are not afraid of strong emotions in their purest form.

The sports visit or speleotourism is an excellent option for discovering some of the secrets hidden underground, with a tour that will prompt you to marvel at the unknown of nature.

This exciting adventure can be done in small groups, and you can enjoy the entrails of the Cueva del Puerto by applying rope and drag techniques as well as the appropriate equipment: a suit and front helmet to guarantee your safety during ascent and descent.

The tour lasts approximately three and a half hours and can be taken by people over 16 years of age who are in good physical shape. You will be accompanied at all times by caving professionals who will guide you in discovering special rooms such as Las Manos and La Gran Diaclasa.

The curiosities of the interior of the Cueva del Puerto de Calasparra, together with the stalagmites, stalactites, tubiforms, organs, false floors and others, will be awaiting you.
