The charm of the Gebas Ravines
This unique and curious site surprises with its contrast between the natural park, the desert landscape and the azure blue water of the Algeciras reservoir. It is ideal for a pleasant walk that concludes with a beautiful Murcian sunset.
Few landscapes can offer visitors a dense forest next to a subdesert. Due to its geological and geomorphological character, it was declared a protected heritage site in 1995. You cannot miss a chance to visit this extraordinary place of great geological interest.
How to get there
This natural area is located in the centre of the Murcia region, specifically between
Alhama de Murcia and
Librilla.
Between the mountains of Sierra Espuña and Sierra del Cura, the Gebas Ravine is born. To get there, you must take the A-7 towards Alhama de Murcia, exit 631, and then follow the regional RM-515 towards Mula.
When you pass the last houses of Gebas, be sure to take the detour to the right in the direction of the Gebas Ravines. At the end of the road, you will arrive at the "Casas de Ermita", the starting point of the tour. Access to the site is well marked as a trail.
The total route is about 13 kilometres. You can get to the Gebas Viewpoint by car, then can walk the remaining 4.5 kilometres. It’s best not to go in rainy weather, as the area can get very muddy.

A scene of arid lands
This special place is full of canyons and ravines that can make you feel like you are in a natural labyrinth with no exit. It is one of the most-visited among the eight protected landscapes of the region of Murcia. Due to its extraordinary characteristics, it is popularly known as the lunar landscape.
The Algeciras reservoir has a capacity of 44.6 Hm3 and is part of the General Flood Defence Plan of the Segura river basin. This space is also used as storage for the Tajo-Segura transfer.
Delving into the place's magic, you can enjoy the view that appears between the lowest parts of the ravines, coming across the "Water Ravine," a source of vital liquid for the area.
