Alcantarilla Travel Guide

Alcantarilla is located in the centre of the Murcia province. Archaeological samples indicate the presence of 5th-century BC. settlements, an Iberian population, and a Muslim presence centuries later.

Its proximity to the Segura and Sangonera rivers made Alcantarilla a land of agricultural production and, later, agro-industrial, with the development of the use of the products of the land.

The beautiful squares, the Ethnological Museum of La Huerta, and its religious festivals attract tourists. Among these festivals are the patron saint festivals dedicated to the Our Lady of the Health of Alcantarilla, also known as the May Festival or the Witch Festival.

Its Holy Week celebrations also stand out, especially on Good Friday, on which the procession of the Lying Christ takes place—a sculpture of great cultural recognition.
