Church of the Immaculate Conception (Fortuna - Murcia)
Fortuna is characterized by its desert landscapes and large palm groves, in addition to its beautiful springs, many of which are hot springs.

It has become a fixed stop for tourists visiting the region of Murcia, due to its spas and the great diversity of options it offers. Its waters were discovered by the Romans, leading to the celebration of the Iberian-Roman Sodales Festival in August, which claims the historical past of the municipality.

Here are our five reasons to visit Fortuna:

Architecture and culture

Walking through the streets of Fortuna, you can see impressive facades and infrastructures, such as the Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception, from the 18th century. Nearby are the Town Hall (20th century), the Convent House (19th century) and the Hermitage of Saint Roch (17th century).

Among the great attractions of Fortuna are its historical nooks and crannies in the Iberian and Arab settlements. Tourists attracted by magic and esotericism can visit the Roman Sanctuary of the Black Cave, a place of worship and superstition.

Natural landscapes

Fortuna offers different outdoor settings that will delight nature lovers, such as Sierra de la Pila National Park, where you can see the Snow Wells and magnificent viewpoints.

Nor can we miss the Ajauque and Rambla Salada Wetland, which is full of stilts. In addition, in the wetland, the waters have the highest salinity index in all of Europe, with volcanic outcrops and salt pans inside.

Gastronomy

Fortuna's gastronomy stands out for its richness and variety of exquisite dishes for all tastes. “Gachasmigas” is one of the most typical dishes in the area. You can also taste the traditional omelettes, the stew with stuffing and the "empedrado".

A gastronomic recommendation for visitors to Fortuna is to try rice with rabbit and snails.

Thermal waters

Leana's Spa (Fortuna - Murcia)
The hot springs of Fortuna have been known since ancient times, and their medicinal use has been prominent since the 1st century AD.

The first documented infrastructures date back to Roman times.

Here, we find the Leana Spa, one of Fortuna's tourist brands, whose waters are ideal for treating diseases such as osteoarthritis and rheumatism.

Festivals and celebrations

In Fortuna, Holy Week is celebrated in style, with picturesque traditions that move nine brotherhoods. A highlight is the "Pavas Parade".

In addition to Holy Week and the Iberian-Roman Sodales Festival, Carnival is a propitious date to dance and enjoy with artists, creatives and musicians. The community also celebrates the "Kalendas Aprili" and the "search for the lucerne" festivities, closely linked to the Iberian-Roman Sodales Festival.

To honour its agricultural traditions, Fortuna commemorates the Saint Isidore the Farmer festivities during May. And, of course, the day of the “Mona”, celebrated on Easter Monday, during which family and friends gather to eat the Easter “Mona”, is a centuries-old tradition.
