Albudeite (Murcia)
Albudeite is a picturesque town located in the region of the Rio Mula, a stream surrounding its urban core. It has a rich history dating back to 1296 and a dry subtropical climate with an average annual temperature of around 17.3º C.

The great charm of visiting Albudeite is the good humour of its people. They are hardworking and respectful of the environment, as they live from agriculture.

We present our five reasons to visit Albudeite.

Church of Our Lady of Remedies

Church of Our Lady of Remedies (Albudeite - Murcia)
Construction of this church, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, began in the 16th century on the foundations of an old mosque.

The structure was made with stone ashlars from the same region, known as Muleño jasper.

Inside, valuable carvings are kept, such as one of Jesus of Nazareth from the 17th century and the Christ of the Blood by Francisco Salzillo.

We can also find the image of Our Lady of Remedies, patroness saint of Albudeite, an image of Neapolitan origin, carved in wood, with classic lines on her face and finely crafted hands that reinforce her enormous expressiveness. The child she carries in her hands is carved in fine wood, a work carried out by Jose Sanchez Lozano in the 19th century.

La Serreta and the badlands

They are located in the southern part of the town, with La Serreta being the highest point in the municipality at an altitude of 366 meters above sea level. This hill has a large number of fossils belonging to the middle and upper Miocene; due to its scarce vegetation, only thyme and esparto predominate.

Its exceptional position allows the visitor to obtain unbeatable views of the entire municipality, and also allows one to contemplate the numerous boulevards, gullies and ravines surrounding the green valley of the Mula river.

La Muela

This is located in the northern part of the municipality and is made up mostly of pine trees and a wide variety of aromatic plants such as thyme and rosemary. As for fauna, you can find rabbits, partridges, hares and even squirrels and foxes.

It is also a recreation and leisure area, with games for children and a place to prepare food and obtain drinking water. In addition, there is the hermitage of the Virgin of the Mount. Here, there is also a municipal-owned refuge, which can be reserved for use by groups of up to 12 people.

Albudeite's orchard

Like a green oasis in the middle of the badlands desert and around the Mula river, this orchard is made up of a cluster of small farms devoted mainly to the cultivation of lemon trees.

Among the lemon trees are small vegetable crops for family consumption. True works of engineering for the water course can also be seen, such as the well-known arch and its rehabilitated waterwheel.

Festivities of Saint Isidore

This celebration begins with the Holy Mass in honour of the saint and then continues with the festivity in the church square, with music and dances typical of the region.

After noon, a large communal barbecue is held to which all those who attend the celebration are invited.

The purpose is to gather strength for the act in which the residents of Albudeite are involved: the parade of carriages.

The Saint Isidore festivities are a great opportunity to be surprised by the generosity of the people of this small and picturesque municipality, which on that day is filled with strokes of colour, joy and fun that will not stop until late at night.
