Routes & Trails in the Bajo Guadalentin region

The Bajo Guadalentin region owes its foundation to the Guadalentin river, which runs through the entire region of Murcia and whose name comes from Arabic, meaning "River of Mud". Although its foundation is estimated to date to approximately the year 1080, during the fight between the Castilian nobles and the Muslims, human presence has existed since the Palaeolithic.

Like many other Murcian regions, the Bajo Guadalentin region is rich in routes and trails, making it ideal for lovers of nature and mountain sports.

Among the main routes are the enormous Sierra Espuña and Territorio Espuña Trail Network, where hikers can see interesting archaeological sites, snow wells, viewpoints and historical monuments along magnificent routes with abundant restaurants and accommodations.

Espubike is another enormous network of trails that extends over more than 140 kilometres, specially designed for mountain bikes. Tourists and athletes have access to multiple routes of varying difficulty, where they can enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Sierra Espuña.

Other routes, such as the Gebas Hermitages Trail and the La Santa Trail, are ideal for hikers who wish to visit sites of great heritage and liturgical interest, in the purest style of the Way of Saint James.

Some linear routes, such as the Totana-Cartagena Green Way of almost 24 kilometres, the Mazarron Circular way of almost 13 kilometres and the Mazarron Mines of just over 5 kilometres, are ideal for inexperienced amateurs. Meanwhile, the Bajo Guadalentin Path, almost 30 kilometres long, is a demanding and highly difficult route, making it ideal for expert athletes.
