Totana is a municipality in the Bajo Guadalentin region with a population of about 33,000 inhabitants. Its existence has been conditioned by Sierra Espuña, which represents the main vegetal lung of the region of Murcia and is one of the main ecotourism attractions of the region due to its abundant routes and trails.
Because of Totana's enormous heritage wealth, which dates back to Phoenician and Roman times, the municipality is an important producer of ceramics and crafts, as well as the cradle of a number of archaeological sites of historical importance.
This translates into several urban routes where tourists can visit heritage monuments such as the Parish Temple of Saint James, the Juan de Uzeta Fountain, the Moorish Oven, the Monument to the Potter and the Ollerías Arch. Totana also offers interesting pottery workshops, where you can see how these magnificent handcrafted pieces are made.
Among its many routes, the Las Alquerias Path stands out. It is almost 4 kilometres long and allows visitors to admire the enormous natural diversity of the extensive pine forests, boulevards, and streams, ideal for ecotourism. The Heart of Jesus Viewpoint Route, almost 2.5 kilometres long, offers hikers the chance to visit the spectacular Sanctuary of La Santa with its 13th-century hermitage and the imposing beauty of its surroundings.
Other notable trails are the Pedro López Trail, 16 kilometres long, with beautiful pine forests, the Purgatory Trail and the La Santa Trail, all circular and of moderate difficulty. The spectacular Bajo Guadalentin Path is almost 30 kilometres long and of high difficulty; it is reserved for experienced hikers.
