The Vico Theater was built on the old site of the “Las Llagas de San Francisco” convent, which had been in this same place since 1601.
The building is the work of the architect Justo Millán y Espinosa and has an outstanding, eclectic style, very similar to that of the Romea Theater in Murcia. It was inaugurated in August 1883 as the “Teatro de la Villa” and in 1890 was baptized with the name of the actor Antonio Vico.
It was restored in the late 1980s by the Murcian architect Juan Antonio Molina and re-inaugurated by Queen Doña Sofía on April 25, 1991.
