The greatest charm of Fuente Alamo de Murcia is its people, with whom you can get to know the natural wonders of the area, but also its history and present.
Without further ado, we present our five reasons to visit Fuente Alamo de Murcia:
History
Numerous are the vestiges that indicate the settlement of previous peoples in Fuente Alamo de Murcia, such as the Romans.
However, Fuente Alamo de Murcia had its origin around the year 1520, after the conquest of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs, when the entire south of the Kingdom of Murcia was stabilized. Previously, in the 13th century, the area was unstable and dangerous, as it formed the border between the kingdom of Granada and the kingdom of Aragon, in addition to suffering continuous attacks by Barbary pirates along the coast.
Fuente Alamo de Murcia holds the title of "Muy notable y muy leal Villa", awarded in 1966 by the Council of Ministers.
Churches and hermitages
The Parish Church of Saint Augustine, dedicated to the patron saint of the town, is the main church of Fuente Alamo de Murcia.
It is a baroque-style church whose construction began in the 16th century. It is also one of the oldest churches in the region of Murcia. This church has undergone important renovations throughout its history.
