Villanueva del Rio Segura is located at the southern gate of the Ricote Valley, making it a strategic point. Both the Iberian and Roman cultures were present in the spaces that this municipality occupies today.
In the 16th century, it was still part of Ulea, from which it gradually separated until it became independent municipalities. Its economy is focused on activities in the primary and secondary sectors. Citrus crops stand out, mainly lemon and orange, as well as the packaging of agricultural products.
Among its most outstanding monuments is the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, built in the early 19th century with a Neoclassical style and declared a Site of Cultural Interest, as well as the Palace of Doña Isabel, the Saint Roch Hermitage, and the Saint Elizabeth Asylum Hospital.
Villanueva del Rio Segura is endowed with privileged places from which one can see attractive views of the surrounding natural environment. They are the well-known viewpoints of the Saint Roch Hermitage, the Heart of Jesus, the Viewpoint of the Morra, the Baron of the Solar, and the Viewpoint of Cuna Street.
