The Noroeste region is characterized by its diversity and contrasts. In this region, you can find everything from agricultural plots with rice fields, cereals or vineyards to mountain areas such as the Revolcadores Massif. Because it is in a mountainous environment far from the cosmopolitan ups and downs, it is a privileged and key place in the region of Murcia.
Among the many different options for activities in the Noroeste region, one can walk through the underground world in the Cueva del Puerto, located in Calasparra. It is a great adventure in which one can travel about 700 meters, viewing the landscapes of stalactites and stalagmites—a very special walk for lovers of speleology.
Visiting the city of Caravaca de la Cruz is a unique experience. Its atmosphere is captivating, with its beautiful landscapes invaded by the aroma of thyme, olive groves and centuries-old oaks. In addition to its historic town centre, its impressive springs, which have their origin in the Las Fuentes del Marqués Natural Park, stand out.
Visiting the historic centre of Cehegin is highly recommended. It is one of the most picturesque locations and in the best state of conservation in the entire region of Murcia. Among its medieval streets, you can see palaces, squares, churches and stately homes. From the viewpoint of Constitution Square, you can end the walk with an unparalleled panoramic view of the surroundings.
If you want to connect with nature and breathe fresh air, the Noroeste Greenway is your option. Its 78 kilometres of route, which you can travel on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, offer a mountainous environment escorted by pine and almond trees. Continuing with the treasures that nature offers, we cannot fail to mention the Almadenes Canyon, one of the most captivating points in the area. The walls of the canyon reach about 120 meters in height in some sections, and many of them are home to numerous caves containing paintings that UNESCO has declared a World Heritage Site. The star of this place is the Cueva-Sima de la Serreta, which offers a dreamlike view from its heights. Here, you can enjoy rafting and hiking. The site is also a good place to observe the birds that inhabit the region.
If you love good wine, you cannot fail to visit one of the Bullas wineries and taste the precious wines that are made in the area.
