Monument to the Fisherman (Los Alcazares - Murcia)

Monument to the Fisherman (Los Alcazares)

This sculpture, made in bronze in 1998 by artist Manuel Nicolás Almansa, refers to the seafaring roots of the city and is located on Espejo Beach, next to the Church of the Assumption.

Approaching the monument, you can see a fisherman dragging an empty fishing net, followed by two mythical mermaids mounted on seahorses. These creatures help the fisherman deposit fish in his net, and symbolically represent the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea.

The sculpture seeks to demonstrate and pay homage to the work of all the people who have dedicated themselves to fishing activity for years. This was the main source of support for the municipality's economy.
