This centre is located in a building situated between the Guevara Palace and the Church of Saint Matthew. The centre, designed by the architect Juan Antonio Molina Serrano, was inaugurated in 1988 and contains a wide collection of traditional handicraft products from Lorca and its surroundings.
It has an area of 1,306 m2 and a temporary exhibition hall where one can enjoy different types of handicrafts. It also has a space for live handicraft demonstrations with loom and lathe. In the centre, one can buy products made by artisans from the Region of Murcia. In addition, different types of workshops are held for those who want to learn the various craft techniques.
This centre became the first Handicraft Centre in Spain and was conceived of as a reference centre for the dissemination and promotion of handicrafts, not only in the city of Lorca but in the entire Region of Murcia.
