In 1565, the population was already large enough that the construction of a new parish was commissioned. The construction of the church began in the 17th century but was delayed until the 19th century.
The interior was remodelled after the Spanish Civil War, while the exterior highlights the magnificent portico at the entrance to the church, created in the 18th century as a rococo-style altarpiece.
The Procession of Silence starts from this church—one of the most important in the city of Lorca.
