This is the oldest church in Jumilla, in the Mudejar Gothic style. Only its witness tower remains, an arch with an alfiz and the drawing of the floor plan that adorns the square.
It was built between the years 1430 and 1500, on an Islamic necropolis from the 12th and 13th centuries. It was the first Christian church outside the castle walls. Saint Mary Church remained standing until 1979, when it was declared in ruins. However, before that it was the main nucleus of Jumilla's activities.
