This battery is located in a privileged location for the observation and surveillance of maritime traffic on the coastline of the mouth of the port of Cartagena, on the eastern front. This is one of the oldest constructions in the entire port of Cartagena, having its origin in the 17th century.
Originally in its place was a strong, small-sized artillery that was used to control and defend the port. This small fort was being destroyed by the passage of time and natural erosion, so in 1770 it was replaced by another. In 1860, it was repaired and reformed to get its current appearance at the end of the 19th century. It is worth mentioning that in the reform of 1860, its construction was arranged in two locations: Trincabotijas Baja and Alta.
The Trincabotijas Battery can be accessed from the central part of Cartagena, following the road that borders the Santa Lucia neighbourhood.
